"Dallas" Casting Surprise: No Jessica Simpson

Well, well, it seems that Jessica Simpson won't be riding off into the sunset of acting work based on 80s television series' after all.
The Hollywood Reporter, originally said that Jessica Simpson was offered a contract for the role of the nubile young Lucy Ewing, JR's teenaged niece, in the upcoming big screen remake of "Dallas."
However, TMZ reports that: "Katie Cassidy, daughter of 70's heart-throb and Vegas showman David Cassidy, has beaten out Jessica Simpson and Kristin Cavallari for the coveted Lucy Ewing role in the upcoming "Dallas" movie. Cassidy will be joining John Travolta as J.R. Ewing and Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen in the re-make of the beloved 80s drama. "
The fans are alight with speculation as to who will star in the upcoming big screen event. Jennifer Lopez, Luke Wilson, John Travolta and Shirley MacLaine are in the running for the parts of Sue Ellen, Bobby, J.R and Miss Ellie. Simpson is still in cast on IMDb, but as rumored actress.

Yesterday we reported that "Desperate Housewives" actress Eva Longoria would reportedly play Jessica Simpson's friend in the promo for upcoming single 'Public Affair.'
The video, which is being shot by 'X-Men: The Last Stand' director Brett Ratner, will feature Jessica rollerblading and having fun with a group of female pals. What we didn't know yesterday was who those friends were.
Thanx to our friends at TMZ.com, that is no longer a mystery: "When it came time for Jessica Simpson to shoot the video for her new single "A Public Affair," she made a couple of calls to some all-star friends. Eva Longoria, Christina Applegate and Christina Milian all join the pop-princess for the rollerskating themed shoot, making them some of the hottest women on wheels."
The track contains the lyrics, 'All the girls stepping out for a public affair / All night, let's rock cause the party don't stop / You know the cameras come out for a public affair', but the singer-and-actress insists it is not about Lachey.
"My album's definitely a reflection of where I am this very moment. It's happy, it's summer, I just want to get out with my girlfriends and have a good time and enjoy myself," says Jessica about the new record.

Jessica Simpson has slammed reports she is dating actor Jared Leto, insisting they just happened to run into each other during a night out on the town recently. Simpson appeared on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show in Los Angeles yesterday (23JUN06) and claims her encounter with the Alexander star was entirely innocent. When Seacrest asked her if she was dating Cameron Diaz's ex-boyfriend she shot back, "Don't ask me about that! It was just a night out!" Seacrest replied, "So you guys were at the same place at the same time?" Simpson replied, 'We were, isn't that a coincidence? We said 'Hi' and gave each other a hug and somehow it became this whole huge story. He's a friend."
The singer was scheduled to shoot the music video for her new single Public Affair in Los Angeles yesterday and will be tomorrow, where Seacrest will appear as a limo driver taking Simpson and pals, including Eva Longoria, to a rink to roller skate.

Jessica Simpson Goes Disco On New Single

Jessica Simpson has gone Disco. Well, at least her new single has. The singer has chosen "A Public Affair" as the first single for her new album, which also will have the same name, reports MTV News.
Now the first thing people might think is that this single has something to do with the much publicized divorce Simpson is going through with Nick Lachey. But it is actually a song about going out with the girls and having fun.
"That was a statement she wanted to make," said Epic Records President Charlie Walk at a Monday night listening session for the record. "Everything she does is a public affair ... [but] this is about having fun."
Simpson actually debuted the single at a Natasha Beddingfield party in New York. Beddingfield has been linked to Lachey in recent months in the tabloids, as his new main squeeze.
Everyone at the club was dancing and cheering for the song before even knowing who was singing it.
"All the girls are stepping out for a public affair/ All night, let's rock 'cause the party don't stop/ You know the cameras come out for a public affair," Simpson sings on the single.
"X-Men: The Last Stand" director Brett Ratner is shooting the star-studded, roller-disco-themed video June 26 and 27 in Los Angeles. The single is due June 23 and the album will be out August 29.

Jessica Simpson, who will release her new single "Public Affair" on June 27, seems to be engaging in a rather public flirtation with Jared Leto. "They're an item," a source close to Leto tells PEOPLE in its new issue. The actor, 34 – who has dated Cameron Diaz and Scarlett Johansson – chatted up Simpson and then scored her number on June 2 at the Los Angeles nightclub Hyde. Four nights later, Leto partied solo at New York City's club Plumm, then headed to Double Seven, where he met up with Simpson, 25. "They were hanging all over each other," says a witness. Still, a source close to Simpson tells PEOPLE, "Jessica is not dating anyone," and the singer's rep insists, "She is single."

Simpson album stays away from Lachey songs

Jessica Simpson is refusing to hit back at estranged husband Nick Lachey in song on her next album And The Band Played On, and has featured tracks about her friends and family instead. While Lachey used their November 2005 split to inspire a series of tracks on his latest album What's Left Of Me, including the rather tellingly-named I Can't Hate You Anymore and On Your Own. However, Simpson is refusing to sing about their break-up - despite living her married life in front of TV cameras for Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica. Her manager/father Joe says, "She's talking about having fun with her girlfriends. "Enough has been said. Let's go on and live our lives. "It's a lot like Mariah's (Carey) record, you know. Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey fans hopes that the couple may reconcile are fading fast. A report now sets the date for when the divorce is finalized as June 17 by Life & Style Weekly. Though both parties have reportedly had second thoughts, Nick seems to really have moved forward and is having no trouble with the Hollywood dating scene. Jessica was linked to a number of men early in the split including Adam Levine, Dane Cook and Jude Law but none of those were ever confirmed and at best they were short lived.
"Jessica's learning that most men aren't as commitment as Nick was," an insider tells Star Magazine. "She's seen that there aren't many eligible men who are serious boyfriend material. Most men she meets look at her as an easy score or a ditzy blonde," the source continues.

Lohan dismisses Simpson Feud

Lindsay Lohan has blasted tabloid rumours she's feuding with Jessica Simpson following a row at a party that left the pop star in tears. Lohan insists the story is far from true and she's actually one of Simpson's biggest supporters as she struggles through her divorce from Nick Lachey. The Mean Girls star reportedly snapped when Simpson refused to thank her for sending a tray of drinks over to her table at a recent Hollywood soiree. But she tells Interview magazine, "I did not go into this industry to be shown on the cover of some magazine fighting with Jessica Simpson, who I think is a sweet girl. "She's going through a divorce, and it's heard enough for her. "They (tabloids) basically said I was verbally harassing this girl. I'm not that person."
